00:00
– [Instructor] Did you know that
00:01
there’s over 200 factors
00:02
in Google’s algorithm?
00:04
So how do you optimize your website
00:06
for all these 200 factors?
00:08
That’s a lot of work.
00:10
Hey everyone, I’m Neil Patel.
00:12
And today I’m going to break down
00:14
the SEO checklist,
00:15
how to fix all your SEO errors.
00:18
(gentle upbeat music)
00:23
Before we get started
00:24
make sure you subscribe to this channel.
00:25
And if you’re on YouTube,
00:26
click the alert notification.
00:29
As I mentioned,
00:29
there’s over 200 factors
00:31
in Google’s algorithm.
00:32
How do you optimize for all of them?
00:34
How do you fix all your errors?
00:36
That sounds overwhelming.
00:37
That sounds like a lot of work.
00:39
There must be an easier way, right?
00:41
Well, there is.
00:42
I want you to go to
00:43
neilpatel.com/seo-analyzer
00:48
and you can see the URL here.
00:51
Or if you’re on the Neil Patel website,
00:53
you can go to Tools
00:55
and just click on SEO Analyzer.
00:57
Or if you’re on the homepage,
00:59
at the very bottom
01:01
there’s a navigation called Tools.
01:02
And again, click on SEO Analyzer.
01:05
And what this is,
01:07
this is a simple free tool
01:09
and it’s a free report.
01:10
It’ll break down all the errors
01:12
that you need to fix
01:14
to be compliant with Google.
01:16
In essence,
01:17
it’s taking those 200 factors
01:19
putting them into one report,
01:21
one tool, so then that way,
01:23
when it analyzes your website
01:25
it already takes them all into account.
01:27
So you don’t actually
01:28
have to manually create a checklist
01:30
and go through them.
01:31
This tool already has that checklist
01:33
built in.
01:34
So for this case,
01:35
I’m going to put in my own website
01:37
neilpatel.com
01:38
and then click Analyze Website.
01:41
And it takes some time to load.
01:43
I’ve put in my website many, many times.
01:46
So it’s kind of cached.
01:48
And if your website’s cached
01:50
and you want to rerun it
01:51
just click the Recall button right here
01:53
and it’ll rerun your website.
01:55
Also, as you fix your SEO errors
01:57
then you want to click Recrawl
01:59
and it checks your website
02:00
all over again for those 200 factors.
02:03
So once you put in your website
02:05
and it loads
02:06
and depending on how large your website is
02:08
it can finish within a minute or two
02:11
or it may end up taking
02:12
up to 30 minutes
02:13
if you have extremely large website
02:15
with thousands of pages
02:16
and you just want to give it time
02:18
and let it go through your whole website
02:21
to see how compliant you are
02:23
with those 200 checkpoints
02:26
or more so checklist items
02:28
that Google has when it comes to
02:30
their ranking factors.
02:31
So as you can see here,
02:32
it gives an overview of my website.
02:34
My on-page SEO score,
02:36
my monthly Google traffic,
02:38
organic keywords, my backlinks,
02:41
critical errors,
02:42
warnings, recommendations
02:44
and it even breaks on things
02:45
like site speed cause that’s important.
02:47
If you’re in green, you’re good to go.
02:49
If you’re not in green,
02:50
you’ll see either a yellow or orange
02:53
or red check box here.
02:54
And you just hover over the question mark
02:56
and it’ll tell you what it is
02:57
and how to fix it.
02:59
And again,
03:00
you can see all the SEO issues.
03:02
So I want you to scroll back up
03:04
and then first start
03:04
with the critical errors if you have any,
03:07
if you don’t, go to Warnings.
03:08
So I’m going to click on Critical Errors
03:10
cause I have some
03:11
and it’ll say 28 pages with low word count.
03:15
And again, if you’re not sure what this is
03:17
and how to fix it, just click on that.
03:19
What is it and how to fix it?
03:21
And I’ll say,
03:22
“Without enough text on a page,
03:23
Google will have trouble understanding
03:25
what the content is about.
03:27
If Google doesn’t know
03:28
what the content is about,
03:29
it won’t be able to rank your content
03:31
for the search terms you are targeting.
03:33
But adding more texts,
03:35
you’re telling Google’s crawlers
03:37
and your end users
03:38
more about what is
03:40
that you have to offer.
03:41
Anything less than a few hundred words
03:43
is considered thin content
03:45
and will be nearly impossible to rank.”
03:47
So how do you fix it?
03:48
“Add more content to the page
03:51
so that it isn’t considered thin content
03:53
and has a better chance of ranking.
03:55
In general, the average web page
03:57
that ranks on page one of Google
03:59
contains 2,200 words.”
04:01
Now that doesn’t mean
04:02
that you need to put 2,200 words.
04:05
And your website you’ll have some pages
04:08
with thin content.
04:10
So let’s see which pages
04:11
are thin content on my site.
04:14
As I mentioned,
04:15
you’ll have some pages with thin content.
04:17
This right here is my contact page.
04:20
If I load this up,
04:22
you can see right here,
04:24
this is my contact page in Spanish.
04:27
Of course most contact pages
04:29
don’t have tons of words.
04:30
So it’s okay to have a page
04:32
with thin content here and there.
04:34
This is my contact page in Italian.
04:37
This is my blog page,
04:39
my blog overview page,
04:41
where you can just continually
04:42
find more blog pages, right?
04:44
Pagination, you know, when you go
04:45
to like a blog and it just has
04:47
a list of articles.
04:49
There’s not a ton of content on that page
04:51
unless you click through on an article.
04:54
This is my home page in Spanish.
04:57
I can probably do a better job
04:58
by adding texts there.
05:00
This is my A/B Testing calculator page
05:04
which is a tool on A/B Testing.
05:07
It’s not going to have many keywords
05:10
and it just doesn’t make sense
05:11
for this page too.
05:13
But as I mentioned,
05:14
some pages shouldn’t have a lot of words.
05:17
Some pages should.
05:19
My training page,
05:20
I can probably add way more words to it.
05:23
Contact page in German, not so much.
05:26
A/B Testing tool page in German,
05:30
again not so much.
05:31
So, as I mentioned,
05:33
some pages will some pages won’t.
05:34
This is my About page in Portuguese.
05:38
I can do a lot better job
05:39
of adding texts there,
05:41
cause a lot of people in Brazil
05:43
are looking for more information
05:44
about my company.
05:45
I can add testimonials,
05:46
reviews, case studies
05:48
and I can actually beef up
05:49
the word count there,
05:50
which would probably also
05:51
help with conversions as well.
05:53
So I want you
05:54
to go through each SEO issue.
05:56
And once you fix them,
05:57
click back to SEO Issues
05:59
and you’ll see, you know,
06:00
all your errors where you can focus on
06:02
the critical ones first.
06:04
And I have 17 pages
06:05
with duplicate meta-descriptions.
06:08
Again, you know, three pages that have
06:10
“Neil Patel’s an author,
06:11
entrepreneur, marketer, blogger.
06:13
He just helping small businesses grow
06:15
by using innovative marketing techniques.”
06:18
This is a German page.
06:19
I probably shouldn’t be using
06:21
an English meta-description
06:23
on a German page.
06:24
I need to fix that.
06:25
About page in English is fine.
06:27
About page in Spanish
06:29
shouldn’t be using that
06:30
because in Spanish,
06:31
people really can’t read that.
06:32
I need to fix it and make it in Spanish
06:34
or at least translate it.
06:36
Here’s another one.
06:37
“Do you want to get in touch with me?
06:38
Just fill out the form below.:
06:40
This must be from my contact page.
06:42
I shouldn’t be using
06:43
that meta-description in Italian,
06:45
that’s English.
06:46
Terrible user experience.
06:48
So as you can see here,
06:49
if I kept doing this for all my pages,
06:51
I have some work to do.
06:52
Here’s another one.
06:53
“Want to learn more about SEO,
06:55
digital marketing, conversion optimization,
06:56
e-commerce or even how to generate more sales?
06:58
Check out Neil Patel’s marketing blog.”
07:01
And these page three,
07:03
four, 34, et cetera.
07:05
I probably should use Rel=canonical
07:07
or block them off from Google,
07:11
more so use Rel=canonical
07:13
and that’ll solve that problem.
07:16
So as you can see,
07:17
I have a lot of work to do here
07:19
with fixing my meta-descriptions
07:21
and making sure there’s no duplicate.
07:23
Same with title, right?
07:25
Let’s say blog,
07:27
Neil Patel’s digital marketing blog.
07:29
You should be using.
07:30
I should be using.
07:31
And you should if you have this issue,
07:33
Rel=canonical with all your blog pages.
07:36
Here’s another one.
07:37
“Neil Patel Helping You Succeed
07:38
With Online Marketing.”
07:39
This is the Italian homepage.
07:41
I shouldn’t be using
07:42
an English-base title tag.
07:44
I need to fix that.
07:46
And once you do this
07:47
with all your errors,
07:49
your critical and your warnings,
07:51
fix the ones that make sense.
07:53
Sometimes not all of them make sense.
07:55
And when you do that
07:57
and you fix them,
07:58
then you’ll want to go back to SEO Report.
08:01
And then this click Recrawl website.
08:04
That’s it.
08:05
If you do that,
08:06
you’ll get your on-page SEO score
08:08
closer to 100.
08:10
The general rule of thumb,
08:11
anything 90 and above is amazing.
08:14
Anything 80 and above is not too bad.
08:16
Anything below that,
08:17
you should work on continually improving.
08:19
And you need to keep doing this.
08:21
And I recommend at least once a month.
08:23
And the reason being is
08:24
as you publish new content,
08:26
you keep changing your website.
08:27
As your business grows,
08:28
you add more employees,
08:29
you continually release new SEO errors.
08:33
And on top of that,
08:34
Google’s algorithm changes
08:36
roughly eight, nine plus times a day
08:39
and things change.
08:40
So we’re continually adapting
08:42
this SEO analyzer,
08:43
every time Google’s making
08:45
big algorithm updates.
08:47
So then that way,
08:48
you have a fresh updated list of things
08:52
that you need to fix.
08:53
And this is the easiest way
08:55
to do your SEO checklist,
08:56
because instead of keeping track
08:57
of each element, as Google adopts,
08:59
this tool adapts with it as well.
09:02
So all you want to continually do
09:03
is just rerun your website
09:04
and just make sure you’re up to date.
09:06
And as you fix your SEO errors,
09:08
just make sure you click
09:09
the Recrawl Website
09:10
and what that does is
09:12
recrawls your whole website
09:13
just to make sure that you fix things
09:15
in the correct way.
